Dr. Carcel is a licensed psychologist in private practice in La Jolla, California. She graduated from California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, specializing in clinical psychology and psychotherapy. She has over 10 years experience working with clients of diverse backgrounds and a range of mental health concerns. Dr. Carcel completed her predoctoral internship at Scripps Clinic Medical Group - Division of Mental Health and Mercy Hospital. She then completed her first postdoctoral fellowship working as a crisis lead for Community Research Foundation. She completed her second postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Eating Disorders Research and Treatment Clinic. Among her areas of expertise are depression and anxiety disorders, eating disorders and maladaptive eating behaviors, PTSD and trauma related disorders, interpersonal/ relationship concerns, medical and health issues, cognitive issues, substance abuse, and she offers therapy in English and Spanish languages.
In addition to being a psychotherapist and diagnostician, Dr. Carcel has presented at national and international conferences and to general audiences speaking on research and treatment in the field. She has also received awards and scholarships for merit and academic achievement. She is an integrative psychologist that practices utilizing the empirical research of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), prolonged exposure (PE), and cognitive processing therapy (CPT).
Dr. Carcel is licensed in California and Hawaii. She is a member of several professional organizations including being a former board member of the San Diego Psychological Association. The most important elements to her treatment approach are the alliance and collaboration with her clients. Her goal is to guide client's to an understanding with personal life challenges as well as provide support, practical feedback and interventions to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client.
